Marissa Munti – 2020 Highly Commended

Coming from a family of artists, Marissa paints her father’s grandfather’s ngura (country)-emu dreaming, a story that has been passed down through the generations. Marissa uses tradition iconography to represent the emu’s wirliya (foot prints), arrow-like shapes that represent the emu walking. Her paintings feature vibrant colour palettes with a range of different size brushes and mark-making techniques.

The trustees of the 2020 Dawn Slade-Faull Award have Highly Commended Marissa’s work and encourage her to continue her practice.
